Reserach into similar products: initial ideas (Film Trailers)

The choice for my product is going to be selected from a multitude of briefs. The brief that I chose to do will be the best one that I can do and it will be something that I can be proud of. The choice of briefs include:

  • A movie trailer
  • Music Video
  • Regional Magazine
  • Short Film
For my own project, I have decided to do either a music video or a movie trailer because I think these options will be the two briefs that are most interesting and I will sustain an interest in it. To help me decide which brief to do it, I am going to be looking closer into both music videos and trailers.

Film Trailers:

If I was to create a film trailer for my product, it would probably be a horror or comedy film because I think these are the two films that I could portray the best. The general codes and conventions of a film trailer are:

The main protagonists and antagonists are normally introduced so the audiences can connect with the characters

Sound Effects or Music Tracks are important as they create the time and genre for the rest of the trailer. Voiceovers may also be an effective technique to summarise the plot from a characters perspective

Film titles are made clear as they are shown to be something that people can be remembered. Film production logos (ie Walt Disney Pictures or 20th Century Fox) are also made clear

The BBFC also give guidance on every film to see what age group the film is appropriate for.

Most film trailers last about a minute and half. Most films tend to release more than one trailer including teaser trailers
