Drafting and Planning: Editing

In a previous blog post, I stated that I had already started to edit my main scene of my film trailer which is the scene where you see the main antagonist Logan kill one of the gang members. To add effect to the dramatic ending of scene 5 where the knife is around the gang member Charlies throat, I have decided to add a stinger called Death March. I have also spaced out the last few clips of the scene so it gives a more dramatic feel to it as it goes to black every space and I have positioned the stinger to sound in between the clips to give a more dramatic feel to it.

Organisation: Location

This is the part of the lickey hills that we filmed in. As you can see it is really muddy and wet which meant the slipping over of the gang members would be easier. This gave a really good effect when Charlie fell over the tree trunk because he slipped in reality as it was muddy which gave it an extremely realistic look to it.

Drafting and Planning: How horror is portrayed in movie posters?

As the film, I am making is going to be a horror genre, I decided to dedicate this post to looking at the different generic conventions of a horror film. My film trailer has the name winters revenge and the conventions that I could use in my poster are:
  • The main image could be either a person or an object as a main focus of the poster
  • A variety of different shot types can be used on a horror poster from long shots, medium shots, extreme close ups
  • Uncommon lighting and/or dark lighting
  • Credits at the bottom of the page
  • Film Title
  • Some films mention previous films from the same director or production company
  • Tagline
  • Cinema Release Date
  • "Coming Soon" or "In Cinemas soon"
  • Social media links
  • Website for the movie
The poltergeist has a main image of a clown which is
used to emphasis the creepiness and scariness of the film.
This also has a social media link which says
'#WHATAREYOUAFRAIDOF'

This poster uses unnatural lightning as it draws attention to the girl in the middle of the poster. It shows a normal setting like a bedroom but has an unusual element of the light. Also this Paranormal activity poster has a tagline that says 'For the first time you will see the activity' which is a short and memorable slogan.

Posters such as scream and Annabelle use extreme close ups to emphasis more detail of the antagonist like on the Annabelle poster you can see tears of blood which suggest an evil nature to the doll which links to the narrative of the film
This poster uses dark lightning to emphasis
the horror and mystery in the poster

Drafting and Planning: Editing

On the 5th of January, me and three characters (Luke - the antagonist and Charlie and Caitlyn - two gang members) filmed my main scene (scene #5) at the lickey hills. This scene consisted of my two gang members (Caitlyn and Charlie) firstly walking through the woods chatting when they spot Logan (played by Luke) who is after the gang members because they killed his younger sister Claire. The two gang members start running away from him but Charlie falls whilst running and Logan reaches Charlie and kills him. Caitlyn tries to help him up but Charlie knows it is too late for him to be saved.

I filmed lots of footage both good and bad. I started my editing process by deciding which film clips could be used in my film trailer then edited them down and I now have 37 seconds of film out of my 150 seconds of a potential film trailer. I now have edited it together.

Organisation: Costume

As stated in a previous blog post, I am dressing the gang members in an all similar colour so I have decided to dress all four gang members in red or burgundy. One of my gang members Caitlyn as you can see is dressed in black leggings, black shoes, black vest top, red hoodie and red matching body warmer.

Organisation: costume

As I stated in a previous post, I planned on dressing my friend Luke in black jeans, black top, black hoodie and black bomber jacket. As you can see this is what he looks like. The reason he is in black is because he is the antagonist of the film so he likes to stay in the shadows and hide in the shadows which can be linked to his psychotic behaviours of stalking and murdering people.

Organisation: Props

For my scene 5, this is the scene where my serial killer Logan chases and follows two of my four gang members (Caitlyn and Charlie) through the forest of the Lickey Hills and Logan kills Charlie as Charlie falls and Caitlyn tries to help him up but it is too late for him. To do this he uses a knife as a prop to stab Charlie.

Organisation: Costumes

I have 4 gang members, 1 killer and 1 victim so that is a total of six outfits that I need to decide. As I have a filming date of the 5th of January, I have to use 3 characters (the killer and two of my gang members).

In research, I have noticed that the antagonists are normally dressed in darker clothing so they are easily hidden in the shadows so I have decided to dress my friend Luke in black jeans, black top, black hoodie and black bomber jacket.

Furthermore, I have also noticed that the gang members all dress in quite similar clothing so for this I am dressing all my gang members in a similar colour - red or burgundy.

Moreover, I have also noticed that victims are normally small, blonde haired, blue eyed innocent girls so for me, I am dressing my victim in a black skirt and thick jumper.
