For my own project, I have decided to do either a music video or a movie trailer because I think these options will be the two briefs that are most interesting and I will sustain an interest in it. To help me decide which brief to do it, I am going to be looking closer into both music videos and trailers.
Music Videos:
The type of music video that I may be considering is the pop genre because I did this genre for my music magazine last year and so I have a grasp on what it takes to be apart of the pop genre. Most music videos tend to follow a sort of narrative that fits in with the lyrics of the music. The music video has lots of pros and cons to making it and I have to decide whether this is the best option for me. The pros for making a music video are that you do not need to create your own story up but you can use the lyrics of the songs to create a story and you do not need to write anything. The cons for making a music video is to edit it you need to make sure it fits into the music and beat. I have looked at different pop music videos and Shawn Mendes' video tells a story through the music video. Another video that helps to tell a story through the music video is Little Mix's music video. Most pop music videos include a bright and colourful lighting which can create an aesthetically pleasing piece of film.
The normal conventions of a pop music tend to be bright and colourful with a range of close ups to emphasis the upbeat and positivity of the video and are normally aimed at a teenage target audience or young adults. The pop genre is not the only genre of music that I could use to create a music video. Another genre of music that I am interested in majorly is the music genre that Mumford and Sons perform in which is a sort of folky music. The conventions are still similar to a pop music as it tells a narrative story through the video using the lyrics for the song. The normal conventions for a folk music video is simplistic with a big aim on environment and should definitely be relatable in some way. This music video below uses the environment as a main focus of the trailer. This could be another idea to create a music video.
